{"id":11593,"date":"2025-10-20T10:58:54","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T07:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iata.org.ir\/?p=11593"},"modified":"2025-10-20T10:58:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T07:28:54","slug":"prosecution-office-prioritizes-oversight-of-the-comprehensive-national-law-on-tobacco-control-and-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iata.org.ir\/en\/news-en\/prosecution-office-prioritizes-oversight-of-the-comprehensive-national-law-on-tobacco-control-and-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"Prosecution Office Prioritizes Oversight of the Comprehensive National Law on Tobacco Control and Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"304\" data-end=\"488\">The Attorney General of Iran has emphasized that all responsible agencies must fulfill their legal obligations under the Comprehensive National Law on Tobacco Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"971\">According to the Office of Public Relations of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association, quoting the Office of the Attorney General, <strong data-start=\"619\" data-end=\"652\">Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Mohebi<\/strong>, the Attorney General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 (26 Mehr 1404), with <strong data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"806\">Dr. Mohammad Reza Masjedi<\/strong>, Secretary-General of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association, stressed the need for rigorous monitoring and enforcement of the national tobacco control legislation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"1394\">The Attorney General stated that <em data-start=\"1006\" data-end=\"1392\">\u201cAll institutions responsible for controlling tobacco consumption must act in accordance with their legal duties. Cultural authorities should also design effective programs that condemn tobacco use and emphasize cultural initiatives to raise awareness, particularly among youth and adolescents, through creative and artistic approaches that illustrate the harmful effects of tobacco.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1762\">He further underscored that <em data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1760\">\u201cBeyond cultural efforts, continuous follow-up and supervision of the law\u2019s implementation are crucial. Relevant institutions must demonstrate commitment to enforcement. Prosecutors, in defense of public rights, are obliged to monitor the performance of responsible bodies and, in cases of negligence, act in accordance with the law.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1764\" data-end=\"1968\">The Attorney General instructed the <strong data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1828\">Deputy for Public Rights<\/strong> at the Office of the Attorney General to ensure nationwide oversight and proper execution of all legal duties related to tobacco control.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1970\" data-end=\"2405\">Concluding the meeting, he emphasized that <em data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2403\">\u201cPunitive measures alone are insufficient. Comprehensive, multidimensional strategies must be designed and implemented to combat tobacco use\u2014especially among adolescents and young adults.
