{"id":12097,"date":"2026-01-06T13:19:27","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iata.org.ir\/?p=12097"},"modified":"2026-01-06T13:19:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:49:27","slug":"cigarette-use-prevention-workshop-held-at-amirkabir-university-of-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iata.org.ir\/en\/news-en\/cigarette-use-prevention-workshop-held-at-amirkabir-university-of-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Cigarette Use Prevention\u201d Workshop Held at Amirkabir University of Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"86\" data-end=\"448\">A training workshop on <strong data-start=\"109\" data-end=\"137\">cigarette use prevention<\/strong> using the <em data-start=\"148\" data-end=\"172\">\u201cTraining of Trainers\u201d<\/em> approach was organized by the <strong data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"238\">Counseling and Lifestyle Center<\/strong> of <strong data-start=\"242\" data-end=\"280\">Amirkabir University of Technology<\/strong>, in collaboration with the <strong data-start=\"308\" data-end=\"351\">Cultural and Student Affairs Department<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"357\" data-end=\"393\">Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"403\" data-end=\"445\">Psychological Health Peer Support Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"450\" data-end=\"866\">According to the Public Relations Office of the <em data-start=\"498\" data-end=\"511\">Association<\/em>, the workshop took place on <strong data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"568\">Tuesday, 8 December 2025<\/strong>, at the university\u2019s Counseling and Lifestyle Center. The program was attended by dormitory managers, health liaisons, and members of the Psychological Health Peer Support Club. The session was conducted by <strong data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"803\">Dr. Sharif Torkamanzhad<\/strong>, Scientific Advisor of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"1344\">During the workshop, <strong data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"909\">Dr. Torkamanzhad<\/strong> provided an overview of tobacco consumption prevalence and discussed its economic, individual, familial, and social consequences both in Iran and globally. He also introduced effective global strategies for tobacco control. Key topics included assessing the current situation, protecting individuals from secondhand and thirdhand smoke, posting warning signs, enforcing regulations, and creating smoke-free and healthy environments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1464\">Practical steps for reducing and controlling cigarette use in university dormitories were also presented, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1878\">\n<li data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1565\">\n<p data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1565\">Developing a <strong data-start=\"1480\" data-end=\"1516\">\u201cTobacco-Free University\u201d policy<\/strong> and obtaining approval from senior management;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1614\">\n<p data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1614\">Implementing widespread awareness campaigns;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1685\">\n<p data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1685\">Providing brief counseling sessions through dormitory supervisors;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1722\">\n<p data-start=\"1688\" data-end=\"1722\">Establishing cessation services;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1773\">\n<p data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1773\">Designing alternative activities for students;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1878\">\n<p data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1878\">Developing written regulations to enforce the prohibition of tobacco use within campus environments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"2200\">The workshop actively engaged students, who shared their experiences, asked questions, and discussed challenges in reducing tobacco use.
