Smoking cessation clinic

One of the most effective activities of IATA was the establishment of smoking cessation clinics. These clinics were established in Tehran in 2004 and are now expanding to other cities. In these clinics, the following services are provided free of charge:

• Holding tobacco classes (including initial checkup by physician, respiratory & nicotine dependence test, nicotine replacement therapy, and counseling during the course);
• Individual and group counseling;
• Holding classes in various areas and centers around the city; and
• Continuous follow-up and counseling throughout the smoking cessation course.

People who want to quit smoking, as well as family members or friends of smokers, who want to encourage them to quit smoking, can access various clinic services such as medication and psychotherapy. So far, more than 10,000 smokers have come to these clinics, and many have managed to stop smoking after participate in classes and courses.
One of the other initiatives being taken in these clinics is providing short-term training for physicians and paramedics regarding new smoking cessation methods and drugs. This is done with the aim of preparing them for employment in other smoking cessation clinics and treatment centers. These clinics work closely with the Municipality of Tehran and other institutions active in the field of tobacco and health.
