On July 6th, 2019, in the joint session of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association (IATA) and the Qom Province Women’s Seminary, bilateral cooperation areas were examined based on the previous memorandum of understanding and the expansion of this cooperation was discussed.
In this meeting, which was held with the presence of the directors of IATA and various units of the Qom Province Women’s Seminary, Mr. Taheri, IATA’s Executive Director, explained the activities of IATA and appreciated the sympathy of the directors of the seminaries.
In this meeting, Mr. Aligol pointed to the physical, cultural, social, and economic harms of tobacco and called for the more serious role of women’s seminaries, as religious and cultural missioners, in informing mothers due to their important role in nurturing the future generations.
Hujjat-al-Islam Robatian, the director of the Unit for Communication with the Seminary, called for the equipping the students of seminaries with the knowledge on tobacco harms and communicating this knowledge into community. He stated that Iranians always have followed the clergy and ayatollahs in various instances, and in this case the clergy can play a vital role regarding tobacco control and prevention.
The head of the Propaganda Administration announced the readiness of Kosar Net Network in cyberspace with more than 100,000 members and stated that cyberspace can have an important role in this regard and should not be overlooked.
The participants in the meeting discussed the capacities of the Seminary and the areas where tobacco control activities could be conducted. Finally, it was decided to continue such meetings and take necessary measures to advance this issue in cyberspace and also in actual circumstances.
