
On Sunday, August 30, the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association (IATA) was convened to review the Association’s completed activities, assess ongoing programs, and outline future strategies in the field of tobacco prevention and control.
According to the Association’s Public Relations Office, the session was attended by Mr. Haj Mahmoud Loulachian (Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees), Hojjat al-Islam Seyed Hassan Moein Shirazi (Chairman of the Board), Hojjat al-Islam Mostafa Morsali (Vice-Chairman of the Board), Mr. Haj Hossein Soleimani (Board Member), and Dr. Mohammad Reza Masjedi (Secretary-General of the Association). Experts from related fields presented a summary of the Association’s 2024 activities.
During the meeting, Dr. Nader Asgari, Technical Advisor to the Association, presented the Strategic Plan 2035 and a proposed organizational structure. In another section, Dr. Sharif Torkaman Nejad, Scientific Advisor, reported on the PAD program, the 40-PAD initiative, the Tobacco-Free Generation program, and the Smoke-Free Home campaign implemented within Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.
Mr. Hamidreza Shahsavari, Legal Advisor to the Association, provided an overview of activities and collaborations with various judicial bodies, including the Office of the Deputy for Public Rights at the Attorney General’s Office, the Administrative Justice Court, the General Inspection Organization, and the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office.
Additionally, Hojjat al-Islam Alireza Rabatian, Coordinator of the Association’s religious and cultural affairs, presented activities carried out in cooperation with seminaries, the Office of Friday Prayer Leaders, and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. Ms. Fatemeh Azim Beig, an expert at the Tobacco Control Research Center, also reported on the Center’s recent research and activities.
The meeting concluded with contributions from participants, who shared insights and recommendations to ensure more effective, long-term, and sustainable actions by the Association in advancing tobacco control in Iran.
