While visiting various units of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association (IATA), Hujjat-al-Islam Mohammad-Reza Mirtajedini, the Cultural Advisor of the Deputy of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), attended a meeting with the presence of Ali-Ata Taheri, IATA’s Executive Director, and Mojtaba Karimi, IATA’s Parliamentary Representative.
In this meeting, IATA’s Executive Director, while describing the activities of IATA, called for a more serious role of IRIB in anti-tobacco campaigns. He added that with the increasing participation of IRIB and the publicizing of news related to IATA’s activities, the demand for tobacco by the general population will certainly decrease.
While expressing his gratitude for the activities of this NGO, especially the activities of Faramuz Unit, Hujjat-al-Islam Mirtajedini emphasized the role of educating children in the fight against tobacco. He said, “The activities of IATA can be expanded widely throughout the country through the participation of governmental and cultural institutions and the implementation of Faramuz educational activities in cultural centers such as schools.”
He announced IRIB’s readiness to provide and publicize a report on the activities of IATA in the near future. According to him, “IRIB has a significant role in culture-building regarding tobacco control and prevention. Fortunately, in recent years, there have been few movies or serials in which smoking scenes are being shown.”
