Mohammad Reza Masjedi, general secretary of IATA said: according to the “WHO report on the global tobacco epidemic, 2019”, Turkey’s tax revenues from tobacco products in 2017 was more than 46 billion TRY that is more than 90% of total tax revenues of Islamic republic of Iran.
He explained that in many countries, the tax of tobacco is more than 70% and it’s not only tobacco, all the unhealthy products are highly taxed.
He mentioned that the experience of other countries has shown that increasing tax of tobacco has resulted in the reduction of tobacco use, so this policy not only has increased community health but also it can be a good source of income to reduce the cost of treating tobacco-related illnesses.
