In a meeting with Ms. Korehpaz, a partner of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association in the holy city of Mashhad, Dr. Masjedi, the secretary-general of IATA said: “expanding anti-tobacco activities in Mashhad is a priority for us”.
While WHO is implementing the plan for “Qom, the tobacco-free city” Dr. Masjedi stated that this plan was successfully put into effect in two holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and it’s decided to perform this in two holy cities of Iran, Qom and Mashhad.
Forming an executive committee, holding workshops and seminars, meeting with religious figures and health office representatives of the municipality and provincial government, recruiting volunteers, and awareness rising are some of the examples Dr. Masjedi mentioned as required activities to help reducing tobacco consumption in Mashhad.
