Tehran Metro Line 5 Managers Visit “Nafs-e Pak” Center; Joint Meeting Held to Tackle Cigarette Butt Littering at Sadeghieh Station

Managers of Tehran Metro Line 5 visited the “Nafs-e Pak” (Clean Breath) Faramouz Center, affiliated with the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association (IATA). During the visit, they toured various departments and were briefed on the center’s educational and preventive initiatives aimed at controlling and reducing tobacco consumption.

According to the IATA Public Relations, following the tour, a collaborative meeting was held on Sunday, May 3, bringing together metro managers and Association officials. The primary objective of the session was to promote public health and mitigate the adverse effects of tobacco use within public transportation networks. Participants explored educational and operational strategies to address the issue of smoking and cigarette butt littering across Line 5 stations, with a specific focus on the Sadeghieh station.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammad Reza Shafigh (Director of Line 5 Stations), Mr. Issa Mahouri (Head of Line 5 Eastern Station), Mr. Ali Mohammadi (Head of Line 5 Western Stations), Dr. Mohammad Reza Masjedi (Secretary-General of IATA), Dr. Sharif Turkmannejad (Scientific Advisor to IATA), Dr. Sasan Amjadian (Director of the Legal Department), Mr. Ali Ata-Taheri (Executive Director of IATA), Dr. Fatemeh Matin-Khah (Director of the Nafs-e Pak Center), and Ms. Fatemeh Azim-Beig (Expert at the Tobacco Control Research Center).

Key discussions emphasized the production and broadcast of deterrent messages via station monitors and Metro Radio, the development of educational video clips, the implementation of tobacco prevention training programs for metro personnel, and the referral of smokers to the Association’s free smoking cessation clinic.

Furthermore, it was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Tehran Metro Operation Company and the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association to draft and execute a comprehensive plan for managing cigarette butt litter across Metro Line 5.
